Bayside Sixth Grade Campus has been named a 2022-23 National ESEA Distinguished School. At its Jan. 10 meeting, the School Board of the City of Virginia Beach elected Trenace Riggs as chairwoman and elected Carolyn Weems as vice chairwoman.
Tina Garfield, a Spanish teacher at Princess Anne High School, is the 2024 Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) Citywide Teacher of the Year. Superintendent Aaron Spence made the announcement during a surprise visit to Garfield's school on Dec. 21.
For demonstrating a major commitment to supporting students and families connected to our nation's military, 46 Virginia Beach schools were named 2022-23 Virginia Purple Star schools. Awards are presented by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on the Educational Opportunity for Military Children.
The news media is invited to join students, educators and community members to celebrate a hands-on training partnership for future skilled workers. The Virginia Beach Education Foundation will host a groundbreaking 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at 1512 Indiana Ave., which is the site of the 12th home of "The House Students Built" project.
